SIMON HONOUR'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN CHIPPEHAM AND BOURNEMOUTH REVEALED

In April 2011, a disturbing incident involving Simon Honour, a known sex offender from Chippenham, came to light when he was given a suspended sentence by Swindon Crown Court for child abduction. Honour, who has a documented history of sexual attraction to young boys, was involved in an alarming episode on New Year’s Eve that raised serious concerns about his behavior and the safety of children in the area.

According to court reports, Honour approached a group of three children—two boys aged thirteen and twelve, and a sixteen-year-old girl—while they were sitting outside a Poundland store in Chippenham. The children had asked Honour if he could buy them cigarettes and alcohol, which he did. After purchasing the items, Honour noticed a significant police presence nearby and, in an attempt to avoid suspicion, suggested that the children accompany him back to his flat. The children agreed and followed him to his residence.

Once inside Honour’s flat, the younger children reportedly felt uncomfortable in his company and decided to leave after some time. However, the incident did not go unnoticed for long. Rumors quickly spread among local youths that Honour had the children in his flat, leading to taunts and accusations of him being a ‘paedophile’. Fearing the repercussions and the damage to his reputation, Honour took the unusual step of walking into a police station to report the incident himself.

During the court proceedings, Colin Meeke, the prosecutor, explained that the police were unaware of the incident until Honour approached them. When questioned, Honour admitted that his primary interest was in the older boy, who was over the age of consent, and he acknowledged that his actions were wrong. Honour, who resides on Westmead Lane, pleaded guilty to two charges of child abduction. His defense attorney, Robin Shellard, argued that Honour accepted responsibility for taking the children without parental permission, describing the act as an abduction at the lower end of the scale.

Shellard also highlighted Honour’s prior convictions for child sex offenses in 2002, which led to him being subject to a sexual offences prevention order. Despite these past convictions, Shellard emphasized that no harm had come to any child since 2002, even though Honour had been active within the community for most of the past decade. He urged the court to consider a suspended sentence, allowing Honour to participate in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program in the community. Additionally, Shellard requested a new sexual offences prevention order to restrict Honour’s liberty further.

In sentencing, Recorder Stephen Climie expressed concern about Honour’s potential danger, stating, “Simon Honour: you are in my judgement potentially a very dangerous criminal. Potentially.” He noted that the incident did not appear to cause distress or harm to the children involved, nor was there evidence of any sexual activity. However, Honour’s own admission that he was attracted to a teenage boy under 16 was troubling. The judge sentenced Honour to a 12-month prison term, suspended for two years, and ordered him to attend the Thames Valley Sex Offenders’ Programme. He was also placed under a curfew from 7 pm to 7 am for six months and was issued a sexual offences prevention order for ten years, prohibiting him from having contact with children.

In a separate and equally disturbing case from February 2007, Honour was found in possession of 45 packets of date rape drugs, along with a large metal spike hidden beside the passenger seat of his car. At that time, Honour, aged 34 and residing in Wiltshire, was already under a sexual offences prevention order following previous convictions for child sex offenses. The police stopped Honour in the early hours of October 14 after noticing a defective brake light on his vehicle. Upon checking his details, they discovered he was a convicted paedophile. The search of his car revealed the metal spike, and subsequent searches of his home uncovered the 45 packets of date rape drugs, a handwritten pornographic story involving schoolboys, and an ABC children’s alphabet.

Honour’s criminal history includes a two-year jail sentence after being convicted at Bristol Crown Court in June 2002 for two indecent assaults on a nine-year-old girl. He also faced additional charges in June 2004, which led to the imposition of a sex offences prevention order banning him from contact with children. Medical assessments indicated that Honour’s paranoid schizophrenia, which causes him to hear voices, was not directly linked to his paedophilic tendencies. The court ordered a section 38 interim hospital order to facilitate treatment with medication aimed at improving his mental health condition.
