NORTHAMPTON OFFENDER JAILED FOR BREACHES OF SEXUAL HARM PREVENTION ORDER
A 45-year-old man from Northampton has been sent back to prison after admitting to breaching the strict conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).Simon Giles, who was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register in June 2024, was required to notify police of any social media use and to get approval before disposing of internet-enabled devices.
However, on June 3 this year, Northamptonshire Police’s MOSOVO Team discovered that Giles had been using a platform called Connected2 without telling officers.
He had also sold an iPad without permission and failed to declare a social media username as required.
He was arrested and later charged with two breaches of his SHPO and one count of failing to meet his notification requirements.
Giles pleaded guilty to all three charges at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on June 11 and was remanded into custody.
On August 27, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Northampton Crown Court.
Risk Management Officer Lucy Fraser-Allen from the MOSOVO team stated: “Any breach of conditions, no matter how small, is dealt with robustly.
Giles knew the rules and chose to ignore them.
This sentence shows the consequences of that choice.” She added that the police will continue to protect the public by ensuring those on the Sex Offenders’ Register are held accountable.
