RADFORD MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN WHILE SHE SLEPT

A Radford man has been jailed after he repeatedly sexually assaulted a woman while she slept on a sofa.

Sihle Kunene violated a woman who was staying over at a house following a night out in Nottingham in February this year.

After being woken up by attack, the victim manoeuvred herself further under her blanket and pretended to be asleep.

But Kunene, 26, of Cobden Street, refused to stop and continued to assault her.

At that point, the victim stood up and challenged Kunene who then got up and left.

It was reported to Nottinghamshire Police later that day.

Kunene was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

He denied the offence and pleaded guilty to assault by penetration on the first day of his trial in March.

He was sentenced to one year, eight months at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (May 14).

Detective Constable Simon Hary, who led the investigation, said: "Kunene cowardly sexually assaulted a young woman while she was asleep and constantly denied the offence until forensic evidence left him no choice but to plead guilty on the first day of trial." "His continuous denial has caused even more untold physical and emotional pain for his victim.

"Kunene had absolutely no right to violate this young woman in such a heinous way and no person should ever have to experience an attack like this.

"We will always take reports of sexual assaults seriously and do everything we can to bring offenders to justice."
