November 2015 Paedophile jailed for 17 years for raping boy A paedophile has been jailed for 17 years after he repeatedly raped a young boy. Anthony Peel, of Bastion Street, Radford, looked shell shocked as a judge told him the length of his sentence after a jury convicted him on Friday, November 27. The 45-year-old, who vehemently denied 12 allegations, was unanimously found guilty of nine sexual charges, starting when his victim was five-years-old. Peel was cleared of one act of indecency with the same boy and of two charges of trying to rape a second boy. Judge Michael Stokes QC, who heard the trial at Nottingham Crown Court this week, told Peel: “You were in your mid twenties and he was a child. He was five years of age when this started, when you repeatedly, on the jury’s verdicts, abused him.” He imposed 17 years concurrently on the three rapes. Sentences of one year, three years and six years will run concurrently on three indecent assaults and terms of three years, seven years and five years, all concurrently, for different acts of indecency. Peel touched the boy and exposing himself and raped him when he was no older than eight years old. In a victim impact statement read to the court the victim, who cannot be identified, described himself as “a broken boy” who suffered from anxiety and depression. “I find it difficult to express my feelings and let others into my life,” he said. He insisted he would never forget what happened to him and it would be part of him forever. Since going to the police, he felt relieved and realises he can carry on with his life and his family. “I hope one day I can be ‘me’ again,” he said. Peel was given a sexual harm prevention order to protect children from him in the future and will sign the sex offenders’ register for life. He had previously been convicted of offences involving indecent assault on two nine-year-old boys and a boy aged 12 to 13 years. Peel, who had been living in Radford, denied all the allegations of sexual abuse and effectively referred to himself as the victim.
