SIAN REES ABANDONS EXETER-BASED DOG KIMMI TO STARVE TO DEATH
In a heartbreaking case that has shocked the community of Exeter, Sian Rees, born on November 30, 1994, and residing at 26 Wykes Road, Exeter EX1 2UG, was found guilty of neglecting her dog, leading to the animal's tragic death. Between December 2023 and January 2024, Rees abandoned her three-year-old female bull breed dog, Kimmi, formerly known as Cali, in a filthy and neglected property, where she was left to suffer and eventually die from starvation. The dog, Kimmi, was a victim of prolonged abandonment and neglect, with her owner showing a shocking disregard for her well-being. The circumstances surrounding her death were described as tragic by animal welfare authorities, highlighting the cruelty inflicted upon her during the period of her suffering.
Animal welfare inspector Miranda Albinson, who led the investigation on behalf of the RSPCA, expressed her deep concern over the case. She stated, “The circumstances of Kimmi’s death are so tragic, and were caused because her owner showed such shocking disregard for a fellow living creature. Owning a dog like Kimmi is a privilege, and it is heartbreaking to think what she went through after being left to die. Dogs feel pain and suffering just like we do, and deserve to be shown kindness and compassion. If any pet owner is struggling to care for their animal, we’d encourage them to reach out to a local charity or organisation who can help.”
Following the investigation, Sian Rees was sentenced to a 15-week custodial sentence, which was suspended for 18 months. Additionally, she was placed under an 18-month supervision order and ordered to pay £354 in costs. Most notably, she was banned from owning any animals for a period of 10 years, a ban that will remain in effect until October 2034.
This case has once again brought to light the importance of responsible pet ownership and the devastating consequences of neglect. The community and animal welfare groups continue to emphasize the need for vigilance and compassion towards animals, ensuring that such tragedies are prevented in the future.
