Two Ipswich brothers accused of sexually assaulting schoolgirl more than four decades ago will be sentenced in January after being convicted of four offences by a jury. Before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday were Shubhashish Day, 56 of Limetree Drive, Ipswich and Debashish Day, 55, of Heath Road, Ipswich.
They jointly denied six offences of indecent assault between 1982 and 1984 and were found not guilty of them by a jury after a trial lasting three weeks.
Debashish Day and Shubhashish Day denied a further nine offences of indecent assault between 1984 and 1990 and were found not guilty of five of them but convicted of the remaining four by 10-2 majority verdicts.
Shubhashish Day also denied another charge of indecent assault and an offence of indecency with a child and was cleared of both offences.
A third brother, Ramashish Day, 51, of Heath Road, Ipswich, denied eight joint offences of indecent assault with his brothers and was cleared of all offences.
Judge David Wilson adjourned sentence on Shubhashish Day and Debashish Day until January 23.
Giving evidence, Shubhashish Day denied a suggestion during games of hide and seek the brothers would direct younger children where they should hide.
Shubhashish Day denied going into a cupboard where one girl was hiding and trying to kiss her and “groping” her breasts.
He also denied the brothers worked as a "team" with one “standing guard” outside a room and chasing other children away, while the other brothers would sexually abuse the girl.
He said the idea they would behave in such a way was "inconceivable".
