SHELLY FORRESTER DUNDEE DRUGGING CHILD WITH SLEEPING PILLS IN DUNDEE
A woman from Dundee, Shelly Forrester, aged 34, has narrowly avoided a prison sentence after being found guilty of administering adult sleeping tablets to a young child over a period of more than six years. The disturbing case revealed that Forrester repeatedly gave melatonin tablets to the child at her residence in Dundee from January 2013 through October 2019.During a court hearing at Dundee’s sheriff court, it was established that Forrester’s actions were both culpable and reckless. She admitted to giving the child the medication, which was not prescribed for them, and also to encouraging others to do the same. The court heard that the child was made to take three to four tablets daily, with the intention of preventing them from becoming overly hyperactive. Prosecutor Christine Allan explained that Forrester falsely told the child that the tablets were for hay fever, concealing the truth about their true nature.
The case came to light after a witness contacted social work authorities, raising concerns about the child's wellbeing. It was revealed that Forrester was aware that the medication was not prescribed and that she did not seek any medical advice before administering it. Her actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for the potential risks and side effects associated with the drug, thereby placing the child's health in serious jeopardy.
Judge John Rafferty expressed his concern that Forrester did not seem to grasp the severity of her conduct. He stated, “You placed the child at significant risk. You did so without knowing or having regard to the extent of that risk. Even now I do not think you appreciate the gravity of the situation you are in. I am able to avoid a custodial sentence here.”
As part of her sentence, Forrester was placed under a restriction of liberty order. This order requires her to remain indoors between 7 pm and 5 am for a period of 120 days, serving as a measure to restrict her movements and prevent further potential harm.
