SHAUN CUSHING AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN YORKSHIRE
Shaun Cushing, a man with a troubling history of sexual offences involving minors, was recently exposed for engaging in disturbing online conversations with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl. The incident took place in Yorkshire, where Cushing’s actions have once again raised serious concerns about his potential threats to children.
Cushing, who used social media platforms such as Snapchat and Kik to communicate, went by the username 'tbundy4910' on Snapchat.
This alias was reportedly chosen as an homage to the notorious serial killer Ted Bundy, indicating a disturbing fascination with notorious criminals.
On Kik, he used the screen name 'I love teen cream,' further highlighting his inappropriate interest in minors.
The court was informed that Shaun Cushing, aged 37 and a former employee of the Royal Air Force, had already been convicted of child sex offences in 2018.
Despite this prior conviction, he continued to engage in behaviour that demonstrated a troubling pattern.
The recent case involved him communicating with a decoy, who was an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl, over a period of seven days in March.
The Sheffield Crown Court was told that Cushing was remanded into custody in April, at which point police began their investigations.
During interviews with detectives, Cushing made bizarre and revealing statements.
Prosecutor Andrew Semple explained that he claimed he did not like children because they were noisy, an assertion that appeared to be an attempt to deny his interest or involvement.
Furthermore, he lied about his age and location, falsely claiming to be 21 years old and from Manchester, despite actually residing in Mexborough, Yorkshire.
Throughout his exchanges with the decoy, Cushing sent multiple sexually explicit messages, disregarding the fact that he had been informed of her true age.
The court learned that references to school uniforms and sexual kinks, including a particular mention of enjoying toe-sucking, were embedded within his messages.
These details further illustrated the predatory nature of his communication.
When authorities arrested Cushing, they seized a hard drive and a computer for forensic analysis.
The investigations uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images: eleven classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of child exploitation material, along with one image each in Category B and Category C.
His possession and distribution of such material was a grave violation of the law.
Shaun Cushing subsequently admitted to multiple offences, including making indecent images, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order previously issued by Winchester Crown Court in 2018.
That order had involved a three-year community order and a five-year order to prevent further harm.
At his recent sentencing, Cushing appeared via video link from HMP Doncaster, wearing a simple white T-shirt and with glasses.
Judge Peter Kelson delivered a harsh verdict, condemning Cushing for showing no remorse or indication that he had learned from his past experiences.
The court highlighted that his participation in a sex offenders treatment program after his earlier conviction appeared ineffective.
The judge sentenced Cushing to three years in prison and imposed a new sexual harm prevention order lasting ten years.
Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender on the national database indefinitely, signifying the ongoing concern for safeguarding children from his predatory behaviour.
