LEEDS TEACHER SHANE SHAW CAUGHT IN ONLINE CHILD SEX STING IN LEEDS AND BRADFORD
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Leeds community, Shane Shaw, a 29-year-old primary school teacher from Southroyd Primary School in Pudsey, was caught in an online sting operation conducted by a child protection group. The incident unfolded when Shaw believed he was communicating with a 15-year-old boy through the Grindr dating app, but in reality, he was engaging with members of the pedophile hunter organization N-Force.
According to court proceedings, Shaw was arrested after making contact with a fake profile created by N-Force on Christmas Eve.
At the time, Shaw was at his mother’s residence in Bradford.
During their exchanges, Shaw sent two photographs of himself and continued to communicate despite being informed that the profile owner was only 15 years old.
The court heard that Shaw expressed a desire to meet the minor, even offering to pay for a taxi to facilitate the meeting.
One of his messages explicitly stated, “We can spoon, kiss and get naked and see what happens.” Furthermore, Shaw revealed his occupation as a school teacher in his messages.
On Christmas Day, he provided his home address on Rosemont Avenue in Bramley, Leeds, indicating a willingness to meet the supposed teenager.
However, later that day, Shaw blocked all further contact with the profile.
Members of N-Force responded swiftly, visiting his property on New Year’s Day and making a citizen’s arrest.
Following his arrest, police seized computer equipment from Shaw’s home.
Investigations revealed that his devices did not contain any indecent images of children, but the evidence of his intent was sufficient for the court to proceed with charges.
Shaw pleaded guilty to causing or inciting a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity.
Leeds Crown Court sentenced Shaw to eight months in prison, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, attend a sex offender rehabilitation program, and register as a sex offender for ten years.
The incident has deeply affected the local community, with Southroyd Primary School’s headteacher expressing that the event has “shocked our whole school community,” highlighting the gravity of the case and its impact on the trust placed in educators and community members alike.
