August 2023 Bradford man Shahid Mehmood jailed for child sexual abuse A Bradford man has been jailed for eight years for child sexual abuse. Shahid Mehmood, 52, of Addison Avenue, Bradford Moor, was today locked up at Bradford Crown Court after being convicted by a jury. Recorder Ben Nolan KC told him he will have to serve two-thirds of the prison sentence behind bars before he can be released on licence. The recorder highlighted the bravery of the sexual abuse survivor who had to go through two trials before Mehmood was found guilty. The abuse had left the complainant suffering flashbacks and nightmares years later. Mehmood had never accepted any responsibility for his offending, putting his victim through the added stress of having to come to court and relive the events, Recorder Nolan said. He was unanimously convicted of multiple sexual abuse charges following his second trial in April this year. Mehmood, who had no previous convictions, had flatly denied the offences when interviewed by the police and still maintained his innocence. Recorder Nolan praised his victim’s courage and dignity. He imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and Mehmood will have to register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life. An indefinite restraining order bans him from ever contacting his victim.
