MAN SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A TEEN
Shahid Ali, aged 31, from Manchester, was convicted of luring a 14-year-old girl from Bradford through social media and engaging in sexual activity with her.
He initially concealed his true age from the girl, claiming he was 25, but later his lies were uncovered.
Ali met the girl on Facebook and communicated with her about her personal issues, which led to multiple meetings in Bradford.
During these meetings, Ali provided the girl with alcohol and drugs, and they engaged in kissing and cuddling.
On one occasion, Ali travelled from his home in Cromwell Avenue, Whalley Grange, Manchester, to Bradford, where they met and subsequently checked into the Ibis Budget Hotel in Salford.
There, they drank vodka, smoked cannabis, and had sex without using a condom.
The girl later visited a health clinic in Manchester to obtain a morning-after pill.
After her mother reported her missing, Ali was traced and arrested.
He pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child under 16 and a charge of perverting the course of justice, but was acquitted of rape due to lack of evidence.
Ali was sentenced to five years and three months in prison, and a sexual harm prevention order was issued along with indefinite registration as a sex offender.
