A man identified as Sergejs Litvins has been sentenced to 20 months in prison following a conviction for a sexual assault that occurred in Bradford. The incident involved the offender engaging in a drunken assault on a woman, which led to serious emotional and psychological repercussions for the victim.
According to court records and proceedings at Bradford Crown Court, Litvins, aged 27 and residing on Thackeray Road in Idle, Bradford, admitted to the charge of sexual assault.
The court heard that Litvins had indecently touched the woman during the incident, an act he later acknowledged with remorse.
During his plea, Litvins expressed regret, stating that with hindsight he should have recognized how his actions affected the woman.
He described the assault as a significant aberration in his life and offered a sincere apology.
Legal representatives for Litvins, including Barrister Abdul Shakoor, depicted him as remorseful and deeply regretful about his conduct.
Shakoor described his client as “bitterly remorseful for his conduct,” emphasizing his confusion over why he behaved in such a manner, suggesting it was completely out of character for him.
During the sentencing, Recorder Tahir Khan KC emphasized the gravity of the offending.
As Litvins appeared visibly distressed, the judge explained that a custodial sentence was necessary due to the serious nature of the crime.
The judge acknowledged that although Litvins had shown remorse, and his conduct appeared to be uncharacteristic, the impact on the victim was severe.
The assault had caused the woman to experience flashbacks and resulted in a loss of confidence, leaving her feeling unsafe in her daily life.
The court made clear that such damaging actions could not be overlooked simply because of remorse or remorseful statements.
Therefore, the judge concluded that it was essential to impose a custodial sentence immediately to reflect the seriousness of the offence and its consequences on the victim.
As part of his sentence, Litvins was also ordered to register as a sex offender with police authorities, a requirement that will stay in effect for the next ten years.
This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding sexual assaults in Bradford and underscores the importance of holding offenders accountable for actions that escalate beyond boundaries of consent and respect.
