SEAN HEALY SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN GOSPORT FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE AND RAPE

A man from Gosport has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. Sean Healy, aged 76, was convicted on a total of seven counts related to the abuse and assault of a child under the age of 13. The charges included two counts of raping a girl under 13, four counts of assaulting her by touching, and one count of assault by penetration. The heinous acts took place over a span of nearly six years, from November 17, 2014, to November 16, 2020, at Healy's residence located in Maynard Close, Gosport.

Healy maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, denying all charges brought against him. However, after a trial held at Portsmouth Crown Court on October 21, 2024, the jury reached a verdict of guilty on all counts by a majority decision. The court subsequently sentenced Healy on March 31, 2025, to serve a total of 25 years in prison for his crimes.

During the sentencing hearing, a statement was read from the victim, who expressed the profound impact of the abuse on her life. She stated, "I have let what Mr Healy put me through drag me down for the past years and it has drained me. To this day I have been letting the trauma hold me back from achieving my goals. Today is the last day Mr Healy will hold me back." Her words underscored the lasting emotional scars inflicted by Healy’s actions.

Detective Constable Lucy Allan, a member of the Child Abuse Investigation Team, commented on the case, emphasizing the severity of the crimes and the importance of justice. She said, "Sean Healy is a dangerous individual who grossly abused a child over several years, beginning when the girl was very young. The bravery of the victim in speaking out and reliving these traumatic events has been vital in bringing Healy to justice. Her courage has ensured that Healy is now in prison and unable to harm another child. Crimes of this nature are among the most severe for law enforcement to investigate, but we are committed to protecting victims, delivering justice, and pursuing offenders who exploit the most vulnerable members of society such as children."
