SEAN HAMILL FROM LEEDS ARRESTED IN SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCE IN SHEFFIELD
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Sean Hamill, a known sex offender from Leeds, was apprehended after attempting to meet what he believed was a four-year-old girl during an undercover police operation. The incident unfolded across multiple locations, including Leeds and Sheffield, highlighting the serious nature of the crime and the vigilance of law enforcement authorities.
According to court proceedings, Hamill, who resides in Morley, traveled from his home in Leeds to Sheffield in his work van after initiating contact with an undercover officer from West Yorkshire Police.
The officer was posing online as a mother of two young daughters, creating a scenario to catch potential offenders.
Hamill made contact in a chatroom under the pseudonym 'uknastydom' in May of the current year.
Prosecutor Christopher Knox detailed the chilling exchanges, stating, "He asked her if she had kids and, chillingly, expressed the view that he 'liked them really young.'" During their conversations, Hamill revealed that he had two young children and a four-year-old goddaughter, and he expressed a desire to engage in sexual contact with children.
The offender also repeatedly requested pictures and videos of the young girl, demonstrating his disturbing intentions.
Ten days after the initial contact, Hamill arranged to meet the woman and the child in Sheffield.
On the day of the planned meeting, Hamill arrived earlier than scheduled in his work van.
Law enforcement officers, who had been monitoring the situation, moved swiftly to arrest him.
When approached, Hamill attempted to drive away but was unsuccessful.
He was later detained at his family home in Leeds.
It was revealed that at the time of the offence, Hamill was already subject to a sexual offences prevention order, which had been imposed in 2015 following his previous conviction for making indecent photographs of children.
This fact underscores the seriousness of his actions and the breach of court-imposed restrictions.
Hamill, who is 50 years old and resides on Bantam Grove in Morley, appeared in Leeds Crown Court via video link from Armley jail to face sentencing.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of arranging or facilitating a child sex offence and one count of inciting the sexual exploitation of a child.
The court sentenced him to a term of four years and two months in prison.
Judge Clark emphasized the aggravating circumstances, stating, "It is an aggravating feature that you hid your online activities from the people who were supervising you at the time because you were subject to a sexual offences prevention order." The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable children from predators.
