SCOTT TULLY'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN BIRMINGHAM: LIFE SENTENCE FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE IN HALL GREEN
In a chilling case that has shocked the Birmingham community, Scott Tully, aged 37, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after a brutal attempted sexual assault at his residence in Hall Green.The incident, which took place on July 5 of the previous year, involved the victim being lured to Tully’s home on Sleaford Road under false pretenses, after they met at a wake in Quinton.
According to court proceedings, Tully, a convicted serial rapist with a disturbing criminal history, had previously served a 10-year sentence for a terrifying attack at knifepoint on a 17-year-old girl in Edgbaston back in 2005.
His latest crime, however, was marked by a calculated effort to incapacitate his victim through the administration of alcohol and drugs, with the intent to commit a sexual assault.
The Birmingham Crown Court heard that Tully met his second victim at a wake and offered to give her a lift home.
Instead of taking her back to her residence, he directed her to his flat in Hall Green.
Once there, he served her a drink, which contained brandy and an anti-depressant tablet, a combination that significantly impaired her ability to resist or escape.
The victim, who was already intoxicated, passed out after consuming the substances and later awoke to find herself in Tully’s bed, with him sitting on her chest.
As she began to scream and struggle, Tully responded with violence and threats.
He covered her mouth with his hand, threatened to gag her, and even attempted to tie her up.
His assault escalated as he tried to have sex with her, at one point inserting a rolled-up sock into her mouth to silence her.
The victim’s ordeal was only interrupted when a vigilant neighbour heard her screams and called the police.
The neighbour’s quick action was praised by the judge, who awarded them £100 from public funds in recognition of their courage, stating that their intervention “saved your victim from worse.” Prosecutor Stefan Kolodynski detailed that the victim had made it clear she wanted to leave after the wake in Quinton.
Tully arranged a lift for her, but instead of taking her home, he diverted to his flat.
The victim’s condition deteriorated after consuming the drinks and drugs, leading to her being vulnerable and unable to defend herself during the assault.
When police arrived, they initially faced resistance, as Tully only allowed entry after threatening to forcefully enter his property.
The court was told that Tully, who had previously admitted attempted rape, was now sentenced to a minimum of four years before he could be considered for parole, with the judge emphasizing the severity of his actions and the danger he posed to the community.
This case underscores the ongoing concerns about repeat offenders and the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior in Birmingham.
