DEPRESSED MAN INVOLVED IN ASSAULT AND ILLEGAL DRIVING GETS COURT SENTENCE
A man named Scott Marsden, aged 25, was involved in an assault incident and alcohol-related offense. The court was told that Marsden, who was described as "depressed," punched his girlfriend in the face after asking if her friend fancied him. He then grabbed her by the throat, started throwing objects around the room, and hit her again. Following this, he went out in his car to "clear his head" but abandoned the vehicle and was later found to be over the legal alcohol limit to drive. The court heard that Marsden had no previous convictions but admitted to assault by beating and driving with excess alcohol on September 27. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge, fined £150 along with £50 in costs, and was banned from driving for a year. The prosecution revealed his blood alcohol level was 49 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, above the legal limit of 35. The victim was left with soreness and bruising. His solicitor explained that Marsden was under significant stress and had been receiving treatment for depression, which had led to him losing control. He had sought treatment voluntarily and was participating in a domestic violence program. The article notes his actions resulted in a court case and sentencing.
