SCOTT HILL GROOMING GIRL IN GATESHEAD: SHOCKING CASE OF ONLINE SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
In January 2023, a disturbing case of online grooming and child exploitation unfolded in Gateshead, involving a local man named Scott Hill. The incident began when Hill, dressed in a Utilita uniform, visited a residential address in Bensham, Gateshead, ostensibly to inquire about gas services.
During this visit, he encountered a 13-year-old girl who answered her grandmother’s door.
The girl was dressed in her school uniform at the time, and Hill engaged her in a brief conversation about her school life.
After the initial encounter, Hill left the premises but did not cease his contact.
Instead, he reached out to the young girl via Facebook, initiating a series of messages that quickly took a sexual turn.
The girl’s family soon became aware of the inappropriate communication, which prompted them to take action.
Hill was subsequently arrested by authorities and found to be in possession of indecent images of children, which he had downloaded from the internet.
The investigation revealed that Hill possessed multiple images, including some of the most serious category of indecent images, as well as a video depicting extreme pornography involving a teenager and a dog.
Scott Hill, aged 25 and residing on Fontwell Drive in Bensham, Gateshead, faced multiple charges in connection with his actions.
These included inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual communication with a minor, making indecent images, and possessing extreme pornography.
Hill pleaded guilty to these charges, which resulted in his being spared from a custodial sentence.
Instead, Judge Julie Clemitson sentenced him to a three-year community order and mandated that he register as a sex offender for seven years.
Prosecutor Rachel Glover provided details of the case during the hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.
She explained that the girl was at home when Hill, dressed in his Utilita uniform, approached her door.
After a brief conversation about her school, Hill left but later contacted her on Facebook.
Within a week, he returned to her address, this time with her grandmother answering the door.
Hill also made multiple attempts to gain her attention by walking past her home on several occasions.
The messages Hill sent to the girl contained explicit references to sexual activity.
He expressed a belief that she might have a “wild side” and, when she mentioned attending a gay pride event and identified as bisexual, he responded with inappropriate comments about his own genitalia and sex.
Hill also inquired about her weekend plans and suggested they meet up, even implying they could share a “cheeky neck” (kiss) if he visited her home again.
Some of his messages on Snapchat remain unrecovered.
The girl’s grandmother became suspicious of Hill’s intentions after noticing the messages and contacted him via Facebook.
Hill claimed that the girl had told him she was 17 and subsequently deleted her when he discovered she was younger.
The victim, in a heartfelt victim impact statement, described her feelings of innocence and confusion at the time.
She explained that she had never heard of grooming and did not understand the nature of Hill’s behavior.
She recounted how she initially thought Hill was being friendly and was unaware of his true intentions.
The teenager expressed how the experience had profoundly affected her life, making it difficult for her to trust others and form relationships.
She also revealed that police investigations uncovered further disturbing material on Hill’s devices, including images of children engaged in sexual acts and a video of extreme pornography involving a teenager and an animal.
This case highlights the serious dangers of online grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable minors from exploitation.
