GATESHEAD WOMAN BROKE PARTNER'S FOOT IN CAR DOOR ATTACK AFTER ACCUSING HIM OF TALKING TO OTHER WOMEN

A woman caused her partner to fracture his foot after shutting a car door on him during a heated argument.

Jade Walton, aged 24, closed the vehicle door against the man during a disagreement, which then bounced off his left foot.

At Newcastle Crown Court, it was revealed that he sustained a fracture and had to wear a moon boot as a result.

Prosecutor Shada Mellor stated that the couple had recently started dating and had been out bowling together.

Addressing the court in Newcastle, she explained: "Ms Walton was worried that (the victim) was talking to other women and frequently accused him of doing so.

The two of them had been bowling when (the victim) received a message from his brother's long-term partner, which angered Ms Walton." The prosecutor added that after the argument, the victim started packing his things and left the property, sitting in the driver's seat of his car.

When Walton followed him outside and sat on his knee, he attempted to exit the vehicle.

Ms Mellor said Walton responded by shutting the car door on him, which caused it to bounce off his foot.

Following the incident on June 10, 2023, the victim contacted his brother and his partner, who arrived at the scene.

His brother then helped him get to their mother’s house after the altercation.

Walton, who had no previous criminal record, was arrested the next day.

Ms Mellor mentioned that in a prior statement, the victim said: "It's made me feel as though I don't know how to treat a woman because I could never satisfy her." Living on Wardle Terrace in Crawcrook, Gateshead, Walton pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, acknowledging that she intentionally shut the door but did not intend to injure him.

Recorder Mark McKone KC told Walton’s defense lawyer, Fiona Lamb, that there were circumstances warranting a suspended prison sentence.

Ms Lamb replied, “I have no further submissions on that matter.” The judge advised Walton: "The seriousness of this case lies in its domestic context.

Typically, cases involving men attacking their wives or girlfriends lead to court proceedings, and there is considerable pressure on judges to impose custodial sentences to send a clear message that domestic violence is unacceptable." He continued, "Domestic situations also make these offenses more serious when committed by women." Recorder McKone sentenced Walton to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
