SAMUEL DAY BRIGHTON SEX OFFENDER CONVICTED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT
In a case that has shocked the Brighton community, Samuel James Day, a 32-year-old man with no fixed address but originally from Brighton, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. The conviction came after a rigorous seven-day trial held at Hove Crown Court, which concluded on Tuesday, 28 July.
Throughout the proceedings, Day maintained his innocence regarding two counts of sexual assault involving inappropriate touching of the young girl.
He also faced charges related to breaching a sexual offences prevention order that had been issued to him in June of the previous year.
Despite his denials, the jury carefully examined the evidence presented and ultimately convicted him on all counts.
In addition to the convictions, it was revealed that Day had previously admitted to breaching the same prevention order.
He also acknowledged possessing indecent images of children, further compounding the severity of his criminal record.
Following the verdict, Detective Constable Tom Perry, a member of the Brighton safeguarding investigations unit, issued a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the case.
He explained, “Day preyed on a mother and attempted to establish a relationship with her in order to gain access to her young, vulnerable daughter.
We will always take any allegation extremely seriously and seek to prosecute offenders for such dreadful crimes.” Day has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, 28 August.
The case has left a lasting impact on the local community, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect children and hold offenders accountable.
