SAMI TESFAY FROM LEWISHAM SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN LONDON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the Lewisham community and the wider London area, Sami Tesfay, a 22-year-old man from Lewisham, was convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl and has been ordered to be detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act. The incident, which took place in January 2013, involved a calculated grooming process through social media, leading to a brutal assault in a stairwell.

According to reports from Scotland Yard, Tesfay initially established contact with his young victim via a social networking platform. Over time, he manipulated her, gaining her trust and convincing her to meet him in person. Once they met, he lured her to a location where he subjected her to a sexual assault. The attack occurred on January 23, 2013, and the details of the assault have been described as horrific.

Authorities confirmed that Tesfay’s criminal history includes a pattern of targeting vulnerable children, often using online platforms to befriend and exploit them. His conviction for the rape was secured in July, and he was subsequently sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on September 20, 2013. Detective Constable James Taylor, part of the Sapphire unit which specializes in investigating sex crimes, emphasized the manipulative tactics used by Tesfay. He stated, “Tesfay used a social networking site to befriend his victim. He groomed her, gained her trust and exploited her for his own needs. The victim has now seen him convicted for what he did to her.”

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Thomas from the Metropolitan Police added, “Tesfay befriends vulnerable children and exploits them. In this case, the victim was beguiled by his attention and believed that he was sincere about their relationship. He has now been found guilty and will be held in a secure facility to prevent him from harming others.”
