BRADFORD SUPERMARKET SECURITY GUARD SAJID JANJUA SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR RAPE OF UNDERAGE GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bradford, Sajid Janjua, a 37-year-old security guard, has been sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison following his conviction for a series of heinous crimes involving an underage girl. The incident took place in January 2023 and has left a lasting impact on the victim and the local community alike.
Janjua was found guilty by a jury at Bradford Crown Court earlier this month of multiple serious charges, including the rape of a minor on a single occasion, engaging in sexual activity with a child, witness intimidation, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
His address was recorded as HMP Leeds at the time of sentencing.
The crime occurred when Janjua lured the young girl into his vehicle, a car parked in a secluded layby on the outskirts of Bradford.
The girl, who was underage, had initially met Janjua by chance at a supermarket in Bradford where he was employed as a security guard.
She was there with her mother at the time of their encounter.
The court heard that Janjua exploited this chance meeting to groom her, eventually leading to the assault.
During the trial, the victim delivered a heartfelt impact statement, revealing the profound psychological toll the incident has taken on her.
She described suffering from sleeplessness, flashbacks, and heightened anxiety.
She also shared that she experiences panic attacks whenever she sees a vehicle similar to Janjua’s, illustrating the lasting trauma inflicted by his actions.
Judge Jonathan Gibson described how Janjua isolated the girl in his car, taking her to an out-of-the-way location where he committed the assault.
The judge emphasized that the girl had initially tried to resist Janjua’s advances, but he overpowered her, taking advantage of her innocence.
The court noted that Janjua was fully aware of her underage status but proceeded regardless, engaging in sexual activity with her.
Further disturbing details emerged during the proceedings.
It was revealed that Janjua, who was already under arrest and on bail for the initial offences, followed the girl and her mother in their vehicle.
During this pursuit, he shouted through the open window of his car, saying, “End all this now.
I could be jailed for ten to 15 years for this,” indicating his awareness of the severity of his actions.
In an attempt to obstruct justice, Janjua dictated a letter to the girl, falsely claiming that she had never been raped and asserting that he believed her to be between 16 and 17 years old.
This letter was intended to be sent to the police to undermine her account, but it was never received by authorities.
Judge Gibson highlighted the significant impact of Janjua’s actions on the vulnerable girl, noting that he had groomed her by giving her presents and taking her to an isolated location for the assault.
The court also pointed out the considerable age disparity and the premeditated nature of the offence.
The stressful and confusing circumstances under which the girl was made to write the false letter further compounded her trauma.
Janjua was sentenced to 12 years for the sexual offences, with an additional 12 months to run consecutively for attempting to pervert the course of justice, bringing the total sentence to 13 years.
It was also ordered that he will serve two-thirds of this sentence before being eligible for release on licence.
Furthermore, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from having any contact with the girl and her family.
He is also required to sign the sex offender register and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, both of which are indefinite.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and justice in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and abuse, and it serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of such criminal conduct in Bradford.
