SAID MOHAMED FROM NORTHAMPTON SENTENCED TO 12 MONTHS FOR FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH SEX OFFENDER CONDITIONS
A 32-year-old man from Northampton, who is registered as a sex offender, has been sentenced to a year in prison for flagrantly disregarding the conditions imposed upon him.The individual, Said Mohamed, was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register (SOR) in 2021 for a period of five years.
This registration followed his conviction for the sexual assault of a girl under the age of 13, an incident that occurred in 2017.
Despite the seriousness of his previous conviction, Mohamed managed to avoid immediate imprisonment at that time.
However, as part of his obligations under the SOR, Mohamed was required to inform the police of any changes to his personal details, including his name or address, within three days of such changes.
This requirement is strictly enforced to ensure public safety and effective monitoring of offenders.
Unfortunately, Mohamed breached these conditions after serving a custodial sentence for violating a community order.
He failed to notify Northamptonshire Police of his new address, which constituted a clear violation of the terms of his registration.
His non-compliance came to light on Tuesday, January 7, when he was arrested by authorities.
Following his arrest, Mohamed was formally charged with one count of failing to comply with the Sex Offenders’ Register Order (SRO) notifications.
He was subsequently brought before Northampton Magistrates’ Court.
His case was then transferred to Northampton Crown Court, where he was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.
On Monday, March 3, Mohamed, who was identified as having no fixed address at the time, appeared before Northampton Crown Court.
During the hearing, he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
The court sentenced him to 12 months in prison for his failure to update his address as required under the SOR.
In addition to this, Mohamed received a concurrent sentence of 20 weeks for another offense—harassment.
This charge stemmed from a breach of a restraining order that had been issued by Willesden Magistrates’ Court in July 2023.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which violations of registration and restraining orders are treated, especially when they involve individuals with prior convictions for sexual offenses.
