CROYDON MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR MURDERING TEENAGE WIFE
A 24-year-old man who murdered his teenage wife by stabbing her in their south London residence has been handed a life sentence in prison.Sahil Sharma attacked his 19-year-old spouse, Mehak Sharma, at a property on Ash Tree Way in Croydon, before later contacting authorities to admit to the crime.
Emergency responders received a call shortly after 4:15pm on October 29, 2023, during which Sharma stated he had killed his wife.
Upon arrival, police found Mehak unresponsive, and she was declared dead approximately 20 minutes later.
An autopsy revealed that her death was caused by a stab wound to the neck.
Sharma admitted to her murder in court and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 15 years served before eligibility for parole.
The victim’s mother expressed deep grief, saying, “The only thing I desire is to have my daughter back, but that’s impossible.
No prayers, money, or support can bring her back.
I am shattered.
Sahil has not only taken my daughter’s life but has also taken my own hope and strength.” Originally from Jogi Cheema village in Punjab, Mehak had married Sharma in June of the previous year, moved to London five months after their wedding to pursue her studies, and was employed as a carer.
Detective Inspector Laura Semple of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command commented, “This case is tragic and has left a family devastated.
Sharma has taken a beloved daughter from her family without explanation.
While nothing can reverse what has happened, I hope this sentence offers some measure of closure for her loved ones.”
