RYAN MACER SENTENCED IN OXFORDSHIRE FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND GROOMING CASE
Following a comprehensive investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police, a man from South Oxfordshire has been formally sentenced to prison for a series of serious child sex offences. Ryan Macer, aged 36 and residing at Betteridge Close, Kingston Bagpuize, was handed a five-year prison term during a hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, 16th May.Prior to this sentencing, Macer had appeared before the same court where he entered a guilty plea to multiple charges. These included six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, three counts of possessing indecent images, and one count each of meeting a child following grooming, engaging in sexual communication with a minor, and possessing extreme pornography. The court proceedings revealed the extent of his criminal conduct and the disturbing nature of his offences.
The criminal case against Macer was initiated after police investigations uncovered his inappropriate interactions with a teenage girl. The offences began to surface in November 2023, when Macer befriended the young girl via Snapchat, a popular social media platform. During their online interactions, he bought her gifts and groomed her, manipulating her vulnerabilities for his own sexual gratification. His grooming efforts culminated in multiple meetings with the victim in the Oxford area, which continued until his initial arrest in March of the previous year.
Despite being on police bail, Macer did not cease his offending activities. Evidence showed that he continued to meet with the victim, further exploiting her and engaging in illegal acts. Authorities also discovered that Macer’s digital devices contained indecent images of children and extreme pornography, highlighting the depravity of his actions and the extent of his online misconduct.
Macer was formally charged with these offences on 22 September last year, following a thorough investigation by law enforcement officials. Detective Sergeant Sarah Church, a member of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, commented on the case, stating: “Macer groomed his victim over social media, preying on her vulnerabilities for his own sexual gain. His conviction and custodial sentence demonstrate that grooming and sexual offending against vulnerable children are utterly unacceptable. To anyone involved in such crimes within our communities: you will not evade justice. We are committed to pursuing those responsible and ensuring that victims receive the justice they deserve.”
