RUSSELL HAMMELL SENTENCED FOR PERVERTED ACTS ON GLASGOW TRAIN AND DRUG POSSESSION IN KINCARDINE

A man identified as Russell Hammell has been sentenced to seven months in prison after a disturbing incident on a train traveling between Dalmally and Glasgow Queen Street station. The 56-year-old offender was brought before Glasgow Sheriff Court to face charges related to his inappropriate conduct and invasive photography involving two teenage girls.

On April 19, 2016, Hammell engaged in a series of unacceptable behaviors that caused significant distress to the victims, aged 14 and 15. He was found guilty of acting in a disorderly manner towards the young girls during the journey, which included taking explicit photographs of their clothed buttocks, thighs, and private parts without their consent. The court heard that Hammell used his mobile phone to record these images, which left the girls feeling frightened and alarmed by his actions.

In addition to the charges related to the girls, Hammell was found to be in possession of 11 grams of cannabis resin at Glasgow Queen Street station on the same day. The drugs, valued at approximately £35 on the street, contributed to his conviction. The court noted that Hammell resides on Main Street in Clackmannan, and his defense attorney emphasized that he had no prior criminal record.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Hammell had refused visits from his family since being remanded into custody following the trial, which took place on December 16 of the previous year. The sentencing sheriff, Kelly, expressed particular concern over Hammell’s apparent substance abuse, noting that his consumption of alcohol and drugs may have influenced his behavior. The teenage victims described Hammell as “transfixed” and seemingly unaware of his surroundings during the incident.

As part of his punishment, Hammell was sentenced to seven months in prison for the offenses. Furthermore, he was informed that he would be subject to notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, meaning he will be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years. The court also officially admonished him for possessing cannabis resin, with his sentence being backdated to December 16, when he was initially remanded in custody.
