ROY PRATT BRIGHTON SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR ABUSE THAT RUINED VICTIM'S LIFE
In a case that has left a lasting scar on the community of Brighton, Roy Pratt, a 76-year-old man residing in Stanmer Villas, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offences committed against a young boy during the late 1980s and early 1990s.The charges against Pratt stem from a series of disturbing acts that took place over a period of nearly six years, beginning when the victim was just 10 years old.
The Crown Court in Brighton heard that Pratt was responsible for 18 separate acts of indecent assault on the boy, who was known to him personally.
The offences occurred between August 19, 1987, and August 18, 1993, within the city of Brighton.
During the trial, Pratt admitted to two of the charges of indecent assault, but the jury found him guilty of the remaining 16 counts after a trial that concluded on April 27.
The court proceedings revealed the extent of Pratt’s misconduct, which had a profound and devastating impact on the victim’s life.
Following his conviction, Pratt was remanded into custody and subsequently sentenced on June 9 at Brighton Crown Court.
In addition to his prison term, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his future access to children.
Furthermore, Pratt was barred from having any contact with minors, emphasizing the court’s commitment to public safety.
In a poignant victim impact statement read during the sentencing, the survivor described the profound and lasting effects of the abuse.
The victim stated, “This man began to manipulate and groom me for his own sexual needs when I was a child.
I now find it extremely difficult trusting people close to me and I suffer extreme anxiety and from flashbacks of the abuse.
Ultimately, this crime ruined my life before it had really begun.” The case highlights the ongoing issue of child sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
