ROY HAYES FROM SPALDING SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN LINCOLN
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Spalding, Roy Hayes, a 44-year-old local resident, was formally sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court for a series of disturbing sex crimes involving underage girls. The proceedings revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned several years, with Hayes engaging in online communications that led to the exploitation of minors.Hayes, who resides on Gaunt Close in Spalding, was found to have contacted teenage girls through Skype, persuading them to perform sexual acts while he watched. During these encounters, Hayes masturbated and recorded the acts, creating a collection of illicit footage. The court heard that Hayes had stored numerous video clips of the girls performing sex acts at his behest, further illustrating the extent of his misconduct.
He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity and one count of attempting to incite a girl to do the same. Additionally, Hayes admitted to three charges of making indecent images of children. The investigation into Hayes began in March 2016 when police, acting on intelligence about indecent images circulating online, visited his home. During questioning, Hayes admitted to having knowledge of the illegal material.
Authorities seized his computer equipment, which was later examined in detail. The analysis uncovered approximately 4,500 indecent images of children, some as young as five years old, depicting abuse. These images had been downloaded over a period of more than six years, highlighting a prolonged pattern of offending. The police also discovered evidence of Skype conversations between Hayes and underage girls, where he engaged in sexual chats, instructed them to perform sexual acts, and masturbated during these exchanges.
Two of the girls, aged 13 and 14, were interviewed by police, while a third girl, who claimed to be 15, was never located. Hayes, who used the online alias “rockdjuk,” had stored video clips of the girls performing sex acts at his direction, further demonstrating his predatory behavior.
In court, Judge Simon Hirst sentenced Hayes to four years and eight months in prison. The judge also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and ordered Hayes to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life. The court rejected a defense plea that Hayes should be spared immediate imprisonment to allow for treatment, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. Judge Hirst stated, “There were videos and sex chats concerning the sexual exploitation of children. The offending is too serious.”
Earlier, in March 2017, Hayes had admitted to inciting underage girls to engage in sexual activity on three separate occasions, involving girls aged 13, 14, and 15. These incidents occurred on April 7, 2014, October 11, 2012, and July 30, 2014, respectively. Prosecutor Michael Cranmer-Brown highlighted that the discovery of video footage and chat logs from Hayes’s computer confirmed his contact with underage girls and his involvement in their sexual exploitation for his own gratification.
Judge Hirst granted Hayes bail until his sentencing scheduled for May 19, allowing time for a probation report to be prepared. The judge also warned Hayes that he would now be required to register as a sex offender, reflecting the gravity of his offenses. The court’s decision underscores the serious nature of the crimes committed by Hayes and the ongoing concern for the safety of children in the community of Spalding.
