ROXANNE EDWARDS FROM NEWPORT FACES COURT OVER CRUELTY TO DOGS ZEUS AND ZYA
Roxanne Edwards, a resident of Newport, was brought before the court in connection with serious allegations of animal cruelty involving her dogs, Zeus and Zya. Born on April 7, 1997, Edwards resides at Clearwell Court, Bassaleg, Newport NP10 8JY. The charges against her stem from a period between May 19, 2023, and June 22, 2023, during which she was accused of causing unnecessary suffering to her animals and neglecting their basic welfare needs.According to court records, Edwards admitted to causing undue pain and suffering to Zeus, a male pitbull terrier-type dog, and to being responsible for a dangerous dog in relation to him. She also pleaded guilty to causing similar suffering to Zya, a female blue XL Bully. The allegations further detailed her failure to meet fundamental animal welfare standards, including neglecting to allow the dogs to exhibit normal behavioral patterns, failing to provide a clean and suitable living environment, withholding fresh water, and neglecting veterinary care when needed. These actions suggest that the dogs were kept in conditions of squalor, left in pain, and deprived of basic necessities such as water.
While the current status of Zeus, Zya, and a third unnamed dog owned by Edwards remains unreported, concerns are raised about their well-being, especially considering the breeds involved. Given the nature of the allegations and the typical treatment of such breeds in neglect cases, there is speculation about whether the animals survived their time with Edwards or what their fate might have been.
In sentencing, the court emphasized the importance of rehabilitation, imposing a four-month curfew on Edwards. Additionally, she was ordered to pay costs amounting to £514. The court also issued a five-year ban preventing her from owning or keeping any dogs, aiming to prevent further incidents of animal cruelty. The case was reported by the South Wales Argus, highlighting the ongoing issues of animal welfare in the Newport area and the legal measures taken to address such offenses.
