RONALD WAITE FROM HECKMONDWIKE AND LEEDS SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Heckmondwike and Leeds, Ronald Waite, aged 24, has been sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young girl. The incident, which took place two years prior, involved the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl while Waite was entrusted with her care.

According to the proceedings at Leeds Crown Court, Waite was eventually located by police hiding beneath a double bed in a house situated in Heckmondwike. The authorities discovered him concealed under the mattress after a search that revealed he had dyed his hair in an attempt to alter his appearance. The house where he was found was one he shared with his girlfriend, adding a disturbing layer to the case.

During the trial, a jury composed of eight men and four women unanimously convicted Waite of multiple charges, including rape and attempting to pervert the course of justice. The court sentenced him to ten years for the rape, an additional four years for trying to obstruct justice, and three months for failing to appear at his trial. These sentences are to run consecutively, reflecting the severity of his actions. Furthermore, the judge ordered that Waite's name be permanently registered on the sex offenders' register, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public awareness.

Prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford detailed the disturbing circumstances of the case, revealing that Waite had assaulted the young girl while her mother was away. After the assault, Waite allegedly attempted to bribe his teenage cousin into taking responsibility for the crime. Waite, who was residing at Thorpe Crescent, Middleton, Leeds, at the time, told the girl that what had happened was “naughty” and that she should keep it a secret, warning her not to tell anyone.

The following day, the girl reported feeling unwell at school, prompting her to be taken to a doctor. Medical examinations confirmed sexual abuse and revealed that she was suffering from a sexually transmitted disease, underscoring the physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon her.

Further evidence presented in court showed that after the girl’s complaint, Waite attempted to shift blame onto his then 15-year-old cousin. He threatened the youth and offered him £5,000 along with a holiday in exchange for false admissions. Waite also left messages for the police, purportedly from the cousin, admitting to the offence. The cousin, now 17, testified that he and his family lived in fear after false rumors spread that he was responsible for the crime.

Waite’s attempt to evade justice culminated in his disappearance in December, when he went on the run. His capture came after police tracked him down in Heckmondwike, where he was hiding under a mattress after moving furniture from a divan bed. His efforts to disguise himself included dyeing his hair, but he was ultimately apprehended.

Judge Peter Charlesworth addressed the court, emphasizing the profound impact of Waite’s actions on the young victim, who had suffered both physically and emotionally. The judge also condemned Waite’s devious attempt to falsely implicate an innocent young man, highlighting the sinister nature of his conduct. He reassured the public that the true perpetrator was now behind bars and praised the efforts of Detective Constables Philip Croft and Fiona Hepworth for their sensitive handling of this difficult case.
