RONALD BRITTAN SENTENCED IN DONCASTER FOR DECADES OF SEXUAL ABUSE AGAINST YOUNG BOYS
In a case that has shocked the community of Doncaster, Ronald Brittan, a man now aged 53, has been sentenced to five years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of nearly three decades.Brittan’s crimes, which involved the abuse of young boys, came to light after a victim, now an adult, confided in his girlfriend, prompting him to report the matter to authorities.
The court proceedings took place at Doncaster Crown Court, where Brittan appeared to admit to a total of ten sexual offenses that occurred between 1972 and 2001.
The details of the case revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior that began when the victims were as young as eight years old.
One of the victims, who was subjected to various sexual assaults starting at the age of eight, recounted the trauma he endured.
He described how the abuse continued until he was approximately 13 years old.
During his victim statement, he disclosed that he resorted to heavy drinking as a way to cope with the guilt and emotional scars left by Brittan’s actions.
He expressed remorse for not speaking out sooner, saying, “I’ve lived with the guilt.
I’ve been drinking a lot more and I’m lucky my wife has stuck by me.
I wouldn’t have blamed her if she left me.” The second victim, who was also abused from the age of eight and continued until he reached his teenage years, revealed that Brittan’s offenses occurred roughly every couple of months.
This victim described how the abuse had a profound impact on his life, leaving him shy, withdrawn, and plagued by self-blame.
He told police that he had lost confidence and blamed himself daily for what had happened.
Brittan’s arrest was initiated last year after the second victim, now an adult, confided in his girlfriend about the abuse.
She encouraged him to report the matter to the police, which ultimately led to Brittan’s apprehension.
The offender, who resides on Marshland Road in Moorends, was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.
During sentencing, Judge Peter Keelson, QC, emphasized the gravity of Brittan’s crimes.
He sentenced Brittan to five years in prison and ordered him to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.
The judge remarked, “The past has caught up with you.
It was a sordid series of offences which ended when the first boy was 13.” Judge Keelson further condemned Brittan’s actions, stating, “The second boy became a victim many years later because of the same predisposition, which you will not face up to, of seeking gratification from young males.” The court’s decision underscores the severity of the offenses and the lasting impact on the victims, as well as the community’s demand for justice in this disturbing case from Doncaster.
