ROLAND WILES: NORWICH PAEDOPHILE AND VILLAGE PUB FIGHT KILLER SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS

Roland Wiles, a 50-year-old man from Norwich, has been sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison following his conviction for a series of heinous child sexual offenses that spanned nearly three decades. His criminal history and recent convictions reveal a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior that has left a lasting impact on his victims.

Wiles was also involved in a violent altercation outside the Suffield Arms pub in Thorpe Market, North Norfolk, in September 2021. During this incident, another man, Dale Jackson, aged 58, was fatally injured. Wiles was tried twice for manslaughter related to Jackson’s death, but in the end, he was acquitted after a jury at Norwich Crown Court deliberated for just 1 hour and 43 minutes. The trial was shrouded in reporting restrictions that prevented the disclosure of details concerning Wiles’ sexual offenses at that time.

Despite his acquittal on manslaughter charges, Wiles was returned to prison to serve a comprehensive sentence of 25 years—comprising 24 years of imprisonment and an additional 12 months on license. While outwardly maintaining a facade of respectability, Wiles harbored a deeply disturbing and darker side, as evidenced by his conviction for multiple sexual offenses committed over a period of nearly 30 years, from 1996 up until 2022.

His criminal record includes a staggering 26 sexual offenses, among which are six counts of rape, three counts of indecent assault of a girl under the age of 13, and incitement to sexual activity involving children. His first known victim was a young girl aged four or five, whom he raped while living on a Norfolk farm. The abuse persisted over many years, inflicting profound trauma on his victims and causing lifelong suffering.

The court described Wiles as a “serial sex offender,” emphasizing the severity and repetitive nature of his crimes. One victim, who endured his abuse, described him as a “monster” responsible for causing enduring psychological scars. Another survivor revealed that they grew up in an environment filled with sexual abuse, which led to multiple suicide attempts, highlighting the devastating impact of Wiles’ actions.

Regarding the incident outside the pub involving Dale Jackson, Wiles claimed that Jackson approached his vehicle aggressively, swearing and gesturing, which prompted Wiles to confront him. Wiles admitted to getting out of his car and asking, “what’s your problem?” but denied any intention of violence. The prosecution, however, argued that Wiles punched Jackson, who then fell and hit his head on the ground, suffering fatal injuries. Witnesses described the punch as producing a “coconut hitting concrete” sound. Jackson was hospitalized but succumbed to his injuries six days later. Wiles was ultimately cleared of manslaughter but was informed that he would continue serving his existing lengthy sentence for his sexual offenses.
