ROGER WEIR FROM POOLE SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD AND PARTNER ATTACK IN DORSET AND HAMPSHIRE

In a disturbing series of events that unfolded across the towns of Poole, Eastleigh, and Southampton, Roger Weir, a 45-year-old man from Poole, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for a series of violent and heinous acts directed at his former partner and her young daughter.

The incident, which took place on May 7th, was marked by extreme violence and reckless endangerment. Weir, who resided on Slough Lane in Poole, traveled to his ex-partner Gillian's flat in Eastleigh armed with a specially modified flare gun capable of firing bullets. His intent was clear and malicious, as he confronted Gillian with threats and violence.

According to court proceedings, Weir shouted, “I want you dead,” before firing the flare gun at her. The attack escalated as he assaulted her with a baton and attacked her with a meat cleaver, leaving her with injuries to the back of her neck. Despite the severity of the assault, Gillian managed to escape and raise the alarm, alerting police to the violent scene.

Meanwhile, Weir’s actions towards his 20-month-old daughter were equally disturbing. He injected heroin directly into her mouth in an apparent attempt to harm her as a means of getting back at Gillian, who had moved on with a new partner, Barry Towler, a police community support officer. The court heard that Weir was angry about his ex-partner’s new relationship and expressed his inability to accept her moving on.

Police responded swiftly to the scene, where they found Gillian covered in blood from injuries inflicted during the attack. Weir had locked himself in a room with his young daughter, threatening to kill her. It was only after a police officer managed to persuade him to come out that the danger was mitigated. Remarkably, the young girl spat out most of the heroin, avoiding serious harm.

Weir admitted to administering a noxious substance to his child, and the prosecution accepted that his actions were not premeditated murder but rather committed “in the heat of the moment.” It was understood that his primary motive was to hurt Gillian, not to kill his daughter.

Following the court’s sentencing, Martyn Booth from the Crown Prosecution Service commented on the severity of the case, describing it as “an extreme case of domestic violence.” He expressed hope that Gillian and her daughter could now begin to rebuild their lives, and that the conviction would offer some measure of reassurance and justice for the victims involved.
