POOLE MAN BRIAN HANMORE SENTENCED FOR DECADE OF RAPE AND ABUSE IN DORSET

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Poole, Dorset, Brian Hanmore, aged 39, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving the repeated sexual assault of a woman over a period exceeding ten years. The court heard that Hanmore’s abuse was not only relentless but also brutal, with the victim subjected to weekly rapes that left her bleeding and physically harmed. His violent behavior extended beyond sexual assault, as he would often physically abuse her by pulling her hair and even placing his hands around her throat, demonstrating a pattern of controlling and violent conduct.

Throughout the trial at Bournemouth Crown Court, it was revealed that Hanmore treated these vicious assaults as a disturbing game, showing a complete lack of remorse or empathy. The victim, whose identity remains protected, bravely spoke out about her ordeal, expressing her fear that Hanmore might be released from prison in just five years. Her testimony shed light on the profound impact of his actions, not only on her but also on her children, who were forced to witness some of the abuse. She described her feelings of fear and trauma, emphasizing her desire to warn other women about the dangers Hanmore poses.

In her emotional statement, she said, “It’s not just me that’s been affected, it’s my family too, and especially my children. I’m glad justice has been done. I’m frightened to think he could be out in five years, but I want everyone to know who he is so he can never do this to anyone else. He is a monster and will go to any extreme measure to make someone hurt.” She also took the opportunity to encourage other victims of sexual violence to come forward, offering words of hope and resilience. “I’d tell other victims that there is hope. A lot of damage was done to me and there have been a lot of hurdles to overcome, but there is hope. I found it.”

Prosecutor Kerry Maylin outlined that Hanmore’s targeting of the victim occurred at multiple addresses across Dorset, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior. During the court proceedings, Hanmore was seen sitting in the dock wearing a blue Jack Wills hoodie, with his hand over his mouth as the details of his crimes were read aloud. The court noted the severity of his actions, especially those committed in the presence of children, which involved a level of degradation that was described as “exceptional” by Judge Jonathan Fuller QC.

Hanmore admitted to five counts of rape, many involving multiple incidents, but denied a sixth count, which the judge ordered to be left on file. His sentencing coincided with his birthday, marking a grim milestone in a case that has left a lasting scar on the community of Poole and Dorset as a whole.
