ROGER LUNN'S SHOCKING SEX OFFENSES IN HAYWARDS HEATH, SURBITON, AND SUSSEX

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through multiple communities, retired music teacher Roger Lunn has been sentenced to four years in prison for a series of sexual offenses committed against young boys during his tenure at Great Walstead School in Lindfield, West Sussex. The court proceedings, held at Hove Crown Court, revealed that Lunn, aged 76 and residing on High Street in Soham, Cambridgeshire, pleaded guilty to ten counts of indecent assault involving two boys, with the incidents spanning from 1982 to 1986.

According to court records, Lunn was employed as a music instructor at the school, where he specialized in teaching cello to the victims. The allegations detailed that seven of the offenses involved one of the boys, while the remaining three were committed against the other. The court emphasized the gravity of the crimes, which took place over several years during Lunn's tenure at the school.

In addition to his prison sentence, Lunn was ordered to be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure that underscores the severity of his actions. This is not his first encounter with the law regarding similar misconduct. In September 2010, Lunn, then aged 71, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court to a probation period after admitting to abusing three boy pupils during private lessons he conducted in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, and Surbiton, Surrey. During that period, Lunn, a former London Symphony Orchestra cellist who performed with renowned cellist Jacqueline du Pre, was found to have fondled his pupils between 1970 and 1989.

The investigation into the recent allegations was initiated in 2012 by West Sussex child protection detectives, who meticulously examined claims from victims and witnesses. Authorities have clarified that, despite the disturbing history, there are currently no safeguarding issues at Great Walstead School, indicating that the institution remains vigilant and committed to child safety.

Police and child protection agencies continue to urge vigilance and encourage anyone with information or concerns related to Lunn or similar incidents to come forward. The case highlights the importance of safeguarding measures in educational environments and the ongoing need to protect vulnerable children from abuse, regardless of the time elapsed since the offenses occurred.
