June 2011 Sussex caretaker Adam Riley jailed for sex offences A school caretaker from West Sussex has been jailed for sex offences including sexual activity with a child. Adam Riley, of Colwell Road, Haywards Heath, was sentenced to five years and nine months at Lewes Crown Court. The 27-year-old had admitted two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, sexual assault on a woman and sexual exposure. His brother, Ian Riley, who also lived on the school site, was jailed last year for secretly filming children. Sussex Police said Adam Riley had been a resident premises officer at St Paul’s Catholic College in Burgess Hill. ‘Systematically abusive’ He has not lived there since he was suspended following his arrest in August 2009. His offences took place against three victims between 2006 and 2009. Sussex Police said an investigation was carried out by the force’s paedophile online investigation team. Officers received intelligence that Riley was making calls on sex chat lines talking about the sexual abuse of children. Det Insp Ali Eaton said following his arrest, officers discovered evidence of his other offences. She said “It is clear that Riley was systematically abusive towards women, and we are glad to have been able to bring him to justice.” Det Insp Eaton said the force believes Riley may have committed other offences. Sussex Police said Ian Riley, 25, was investigated as part of a separate investigation. His offences were carried out between 2004 and 2009 and did not involve physical contact with children. The former school karate instructor secretly filmed children as they changed for sports lessons. He was given a three-and-a-half year sentence at Hove Crown Court on 29 July last year. The force confirmed he had been staying with his brother at the school at the time of his offending but his offences were not carried out there.
