A POWYS man who sent excessive messages to a former partner, insulting and criticising her parenting, has been barred from contacting her.

Roger Hill, 41, was sentenced at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 20, having previously admitted an offence of harassment without violence in relation to his ex-partner.

The court heard Hill sent the victim a “significant” number of messages, with some insulting phrases.

Hill, of Coniston House, Temple Street, Llandrindod, has accepted he needs help with his mental health, which he said he hopes to receive from the court order handed down.

The offending occurred between August 11 and September 24 last year.

Incidents included stalking her, contacting her new partner and her mother, and sending hurtful messages containing sexualised phrases and criticisms of her parenting.

Hill was handed an 18-month community order, which includes a mental health treatment requirement, a 90-day alcohol abstinence requirement, and 15 rehabilitation activity days.

A restraining order was also issued for two years, barring all contact with the victim except for child contact.

He will pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.

Hill expressed remorse and acknowledged his mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression, and sought help.
