Gareth Green

Llandrindod Sexual Abuser

July 2022 Powys man ‘disgusted with himself’ over indecent child images A Llandrindod Wells man has escaped immediate jail after he was handed a suspended term for making indecent images of children. A sentencing hearing this week heard that 42-year-old Gareth Robert James Green was not attracted to underage girls but had become stuck in a cycle during 2021 due to his deteriorating mental health. Green, of Temple Street, Llandrindod, felt “detached from reality” during his period of offending, which took place between March 11 and September 21, 2021, and it was said to be a “relief” when he was apprehended by police. Green was found in possession of 43 images of child porn on his laptop when it was searched by police when they called at his address on September 22 last year. He previously pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children. Nine of the images found were of the most serious Category A calibre. One image was in Category B and a further 33 in Category C. Prosecutor Stephen Davies told Llandrindod Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 6, Green had said to police officers that he felt bad about having committed the offences. “He felt bad, he was aware they were illegal,” he said. “He told officers he wasn’t sexually attracted to girls that age and he regretted it.” Mr Davies said Green had made contact with Stop It Now, a UK-wide charity dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse, and a therapist since his arrest. He was given six months each to be served consecutively for the Category A and Category B offences, and six months concurrently for the Category C offence, all suspended for two years. Chair of the bench Kathryn Silk said: “We have suspended this sentence due to the very real prospect of rehabilitation and your strong mitigation.” As part of the sentence, Green must attend 35 sessions of the Horizon programme and complete 35 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and pay a £156 surcharge and £85 costs. He will be made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years and must sign the sex offenders’ register for the same amount of time.
