ROBIN MAUGHAN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MARKET HARBOROUGH LEAVE COMMUNITY SHOCKED

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Market Harborough, Leicestershire, Robin Maughan, a 36-year-old man, has been subjected to a significant extension of his prison sentence following the admission of additional heinous crimes. Maughan, who was previously convicted of multiple child sex offences, now faces a further 12 years behind bars, which will be served consecutively to his existing sentence.

Initially, Maughan was serving a sentence of 14 years and 10 months after being convicted in March 2016 for a series of serious offences against minors. His crimes included engaging in sexual activities with children, with allegations involving both boys and girls as young as 13. The court heard that he had admitted to 21 offences at that time, which included having sexual relations with a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. Following his conviction, Leicestershire Police publicly expressed concerns that Maughan might have harmed additional victims and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Further investigations revealed that Maughan had committed even more offences over the years. Last year, at Leicester Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to an additional 18 charges of sexual misconduct involving children aged between 13 and 15, spanning a period from 2000 to 2015. These new charges included multiple counts of indecent assault on girls and boys, as well as acts of penetrative sexual activity. The court found him guilty of three counts of indecent assault on a girl, four counts of sexual activity involving a boy aged between 13 and 15, and one count of sexual activity with a boy under 16. Additionally, he was convicted of two counts of sexual assault on a boy, two counts of causing a boy between 13 and 15 to watch sexual acts, and two counts of taking indecent images of children.

In total, Maughan was sentenced to an additional 12 years in prison, along with a five-year licence period, for a specific count of indecent assault on a girl. The court also acquitted him of one charge of indecent assault on a girl. The judge ordered that these sentences run concurrently with his existing term, meaning he will serve a minimum of eight years before being eligible for parole. The judge emphasized the severity of Maughan’s actions and the need to protect the public from further harm.

Throughout the proceedings, Maughan’s criminal history was laid bare, revealing a pattern of grooming and abusing minors over many years. His crimes, which include the grooming and sexual abuse of two teenagers in March 2016, have left a lasting scar on the victims and the community at large. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring such offenders to justice and prevent further harm to vulnerable children.
