WHITBY MAN ROBERT WEATHERILL CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF UNDER-AGE GIRL IN YORKSHIRE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Whitby, a young man named Robert Weatherill, aged 19, has been found in possession of indecent images of an under-age girl, with the incident taking place over a span of several months from April to June of the previous year. The case was brought before York Crown Court, where details of Weatherill’s actions and the nature of the evidence were laid bare.

According to court proceedings, Weatherill had accessed and stored explicit images of a teenage girl, which she had taken herself via Snapchat. The court heard that Weatherill had taken multiple screenshots of these images, including a video where the girl performed a sexual act on herself. These images were then saved onto his iPhone’s camera roll, raising serious concerns about the exploitation and privacy violations involved.

The girl, whose identity is protected by law, had initially sent the images to Weatherill but later asked him to delete them. Despite her request, Weatherill refused to comply. Prosecutor Ashleigh Metcalfe explained that Weatherill’s response to her was to warn her to “be careful,” which the court interpreted as a threatening gesture. This warning was perceived by the girl as a potential threat to use the images as leverage or to share them with others, thereby increasing the risk of further harm.

Furthermore, the court was informed that Weatherill had made a coded threat to the girl, implying that if she caused him “problems,” he might use the images against her or share them online. This behavior indicated an intent to manipulate or intimidate the victim, which added to the severity of the case.

Following his arrest in June of the previous year, Weatherill was interviewed by police, during which he admitted to the possession of the indecent images and acknowledged that he had taken screenshots of the girl’s Snapchat photos. The police investigation confirmed the allegations, and Weatherill was charged with two counts of possessing indecent images of a child and one count of making indecent images.

Weatherill, who is currently without a fixed address, appeared in court to face sentencing after admitting to the charges. The case has raised concerns about online safety and the exploitation of minors, prompting calls for increased vigilance and protective measures within the community of Whitby and beyond.
