ROBERT WAKES CAUSES OUTRAGE IN MANCHESTER AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BLACKPOOL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Robert Wakes, a 20-year-old stallholder from Sandown Street, Manchester, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Blackpool during May 2013. The incident took place in the seaside town, where Wakes approached the young girl with inappropriate intentions.

According to court proceedings, Wakes initially asked the girl for a hug, a request that quickly escalated into more serious misconduct. He then proceeded to grab her bottom and made an explicit invitation for her to accompany him into a toilet. The girl, overwhelmed and distressed, managed to escape the situation by fleeing to a friend’s house, where she sought refuge in tears.

The court was informed that Wakes was intoxicated at the time of the incident and, notably, does not remember what transpired. Despite his lack of recollection, he pleaded guilty to the charges of sexual touching. The magistrates in Blackpool responded by placing Wakes on the Sex Offenders Register, a measure intended to monitor his activities moving forward.

He was also granted bail pending the preparation of pre-sentence reports, which will inform the sentencing process. The case has raised concerns about the safety of young girls and the importance of vigilance in public spaces, especially in popular tourist destinations like Blackpool.
