MAN JAILED FOR TELLING '12-YEAR-OLD BOY' HE WAS ‘SEXY’ AND ARRANGING TO MEET HIM AT HOTEL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, 36-year-old Robert Taylor was found guilty of serious offences involving the grooming and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor in the Leeds area. The ordeal began in June of last year when Taylor made contact via a Facebook account that was designed to appear as if it belonged to a 12-year-old boy named 'James.' Over an intensive period of approximately eight days, Taylor engaged in grooming behaviours that included sending explicit photographs, making sexual comments, and expressing a desire to be the boy's boyfriend.
The situation escalated to the point where Taylor had arranged to meet 'James' at Batley Railway Station, with plans to check into a hotel, indicating an intention to carry out a sexual offence of a very serious nature.
However, the entire operation was a police sting.
The account used by Taylor was a decoy created by West Yorkshire Police to catch potential offenders in the act.
When Taylor arrived at Batley Station on June 30 last year, he was immediately arrested by officers.
Upon interrogation, Taylor did not deny his actions; he admitted to what he had done and expressed a troubling justification, claiming he was 'horny.' Further investigations revealed that Taylor had viewed a significant number of indecent images, which led to the seizure of his computer and hard drives from his address on Naseby View in Burmantofts.
Police discovered that he possessed thousands of images and videos depicting child abuse, including 990 categorised as Category A, the most severe level of child exploitation material.
The authorities also found extreme pornographic content involving individuals performing sex acts on animals.
After delays caused by recent legislative changes, Taylor was brought before Leeds Crown Court in April to face justice.
During the hearing, he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including arranging or facilitating a child sex offence, attempting to meet a child under the age of 16, and attempting sexual communication with a child.
Additionally, he admitted to possessing indecent images, prohibited images of children, and extreme pornographic content.
The court proceedings were temporarily delayed as Judge Rodney Jameson KC reviewed a comprehensive medical report concerning Taylor's mental health.
The report authored by Dr.
Harry Wood highlighted that Taylor had experienced lifelong psychological issues rooted in early childhood circumstances, notably that his mother had been unwell at the time of his birth.
These difficulties contributed to him being socially isolated throughout his life.
Furthermore, Dr.
Wood indicated that Taylor was likely to have Asperger’s Syndrome.
It is important to note that Taylor has no prior criminal record.
Nonetheless, Judge Jameson pointed out that although there was no direct victim in this case, the evidence showed a significant level of premeditation and grooming behavior—actions that demonstrated a calculated approach to offending.
In light of these factors, Taylor was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order lasting ten years, designed to restrict his contact with minors and limit his opportunities to reoffend.
