ROBERT SHAW FROM DONCASTER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AFTER UNDERCOVER STING IN YORKSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Doncaster and the surrounding areas, Robert Shaw, a 65-year-old pensioner, was caught engaging in illicit communications with what he believed to be a young girl. The incident unfolded in July 2019 when an undercover police officer, posing as a 12-year-old girl, initiated contact with Shaw through online messaging platforms.
Shaw’s conversations quickly took a sinister turn as he moved the dialogue to Kik Messenger, a popular messaging app.
During their exchanges, he explicitly asked the decoy to send photographs of herself dressed in her school uniform, a request that revealed his disturbing obsession with young girls.
Shaw also inquired about her physical development, asking how large her breasts were and urging her to show him.
In a further act of depravity, he sent a photograph of himself in the bath, which was later discovered by police during a raid on his residence.
Authorities executed a search warrant at Shaw’s home on Thomas Road, Stainforth, uncovering a laptop and mobile phone containing extreme pornography.
Investigators also found search terms such as “incest,” “illegal,” and “rape,” which underscored the severity of his disturbing interests.
When questioned by police, Shaw claimed that his actions were motivated by boredom rather than sexual desire, a statement that did little to mitigate his culpability.
Despite his arrest and subsequent detention, Shaw’s predatory behavior did not cease.
After being released from custody, he continued his illicit pursuits by creating a new online account, this time claiming to be a 13-year-old girl.
He again asked the decoy about her physical development, specifically whether her breasts had started to grow, demonstrating a persistent obsession with underage girls.
Shaw faced multiple charges, including attempting to communicate with a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, attempting to produce indecent images, and possession of extreme pornography.
During a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court, Judge Graham Reeds described Shaw as “obsessed with sexual development” and emphasized his sexual interest in pre-pubescent children.
The court was informed that Shaw had already served four weeks in prison following his initial arrest.
In a sentencing decision that balanced punishment with the possibility of rehabilitation, Judge Reeds handed Shaw a 10-month prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months.
The judge noted that Shaw’s prior time in prison might make a more realistic prospect of reform, especially if he engaged in a structured rehabilitation program.
Additionally, Shaw was ordered to complete 40 days of rehabilitation activity requirements, and he will be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years.
Furthermore, he will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
