ROBERT NEVOLS FROM BARNET SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST SCHOOLGIRLS IN LEICESTERSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the local community and brought to light the disturbing actions of a convicted sex offender, Robert Nevols, a resident of Barnet, was sentenced to a significant prison term for a series of heinous crimes committed against two young girls in Leicestershire over a decade ago.Nevols, aged 65 at the time of sentencing, was found guilty of more than 20 separate offences following a comprehensive trial at Leicester Crown Court. The charges stemmed from his abuse of two schoolgirls, both under the age of 13, with the incidents occurring more than ten years prior to his conviction. The severity of his crimes included multiple counts of indecent assault, sexual indecency, and rape, with one of the victims subjected to a rape that was particularly traumatic.
Prosecutor Gary Short detailed the profound psychological impact the abuse had inflicted upon the victims, emphasizing the lasting damage caused by Nevols’s actions. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Nevols maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, denying all charges brought against him.
During the trial, the jury convicted Nevols on a total of eight counts of indecent assault, four counts of indecency with a child, two counts of rape, an attempted rape, two counts of sexually assaulting a child, and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, all related to the first victim. Additionally, he was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault against the second girl.
The sentencing hearing saw Recorder Stuart Sprawson impose a 15-year prison sentence on Nevols. The judge also ordered that he serve half of this term before being eligible for parole. Furthermore, the court extended Nevols’s licence period by an additional year, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.
In accordance with legal requirements for sex offenders, Nevols was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his activities and movements to prevent further harm. His address has been recorded on the sex offender register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public awareness of his status. The court acknowledged Nevols’s poor health as a factor in the sentencing, but this did not mitigate the severity of his punishment.
It was also noted that Robert Nevols, who was once a resident of Barnet, died on February 26, 2021, while serving his sentence at HM Prison Ryehill in Northamptonshire, marking the end of a tragic chapter in this disturbing case.
