ROBERT JONES WREXHAM SEX OFFENDER BUST AT MOULD COURT

In a series of disturbing incidents that have brought to light the troubling behavior of Robert Jones, a man from Wrexham, serious legal proceedings have unfolded in Mold, North Wales.

Jones, aged 54, has been involved in multiple offenses related to his interactions with minors online, leading to court appearances and convictions that highlight the dangers posed by individuals exploiting digital platforms.

Back in July 2018, Jones appeared before Mold Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to two separate charges of attempting to communicate with underage girls for sexual purposes.

These offenses took place through online chat rooms, where Jones engaged in conversations with what he believed were teenage girls.

The court heard that Jones had previously been placed on the sex offender register following a conviction for engaging in sexual communication with a child.

As part of his sentence, he was subjected to a suspended prison term, and he was explicitly prohibited from having any contact with minors.

Despite these restrictions, the court was informed that Jones had been residing at an address where a child under 18 was present, which constituted a breach of his legal obligations.

Deputy District Judge Gerallt Jones decided to refer the case for sentencing at a higher court, the Crown Court, scheduled for the following month, to determine the appropriate punishment for his breach of the sex offender register and related offenses.

Earlier in the same year, in Wrexham, Jones’s online activities came under scrutiny when he was caught engaging in sexual chats with what he believed were underage girls.

The incidents involved Jones sending a fake photograph of himself to a user he thought was a 13-year-old girl after joining a teen chat room.

On another occasion, he initiated a conversation with a girl claiming to be 14 years old, inviting her to send photographs and even setting up a webcam session.

Unbeknownst to him, both girls were actually undercover police officers operating under false identities.

Jones, who resides on King Street in Wrexham, pleaded guilty at Wrexham Magistrates Court to two charges of attempting to communicate with a minor under 16 for sexual gratification, with the incidents occurring on October 27 and November 30.

His actions drew the attention of Judge Rhys Rowlands at Mold Crown Court, who sentenced him to six months in prison, suspended for two years.

The judge expressed strong disapproval of Jones’s behavior, stating, “Young girls have quite enough to deal with than dealing with a man like you, a man in his 50s trawling the internet for sexual gratification.” During the proceedings, the prosecution, led by Barrister Anna Pope, detailed how an undercover officer posed as a 13-year-old girl in the chat room and received an invitation for a private conversation.

Jones claimed to be someone named Mark, aged 32, from Chester, and sent a photograph of himself, which was actually of a much younger man.

He then asked the girl, referred to as “Liv,” to send him a photograph, revealing his arousal.

Authorities traced the IP address from the image he sent, leading to his arrest in December.

By that time, Jones had continued his inappropriate behavior on the same chat site, where he again engaged with an undercover officer posing as “Madison,” a 14-year-old girl from Reading, Berkshire.

When she indicated her age, Jones responded with a casual “Cool” and requested a photograph to masturbate to, as well as a webcam session, which she refused.

At the time of his arrest, Jones admitted to the police that he had engaged in the sexual conversations, acknowledging that his actions were “stupid and bloody wrong.” His defense lawyer, Simon Rogers, suggested that the court consider a community order or a suspended sentence, aligning with the recommendations in the pre-sentence report.

The case underscores the ongoing concerns about online predators and the importance of strict legal measures to protect minors from exploitation and abuse.
