ROBERT HILEY JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL IN BIRMINGHAM
In December 2019, Robert Hiley, a man previously known to reside in Birmingham, was released from custody and returned to his hometown, where he resumed his life amidst ongoing concerns about his past actions.Back in February 2017, Hiley, then aged 25, faced serious criminal charges related to his conduct involving a young girl.
He appeared before Birmingham Crown Court to face allegations of multiple sexual offences.
Throughout the proceedings, Hiley initially denied the accusations but later changed his stance.
The court was informed that Hiley, a landscape gardener by profession, had engaged in a disturbing pattern of grooming and abusing a seven-year-old girl.
The charges included two counts of sexual assault on a child under 13 by penetration, as well as two counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The prosecution detailed how Hiley had systematically isolated the young victim, gaining her trust before subjecting her to repeated sexual abuse on several occasions.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, Hiley maintained his innocence during the police investigation and initial court appearances.
However, moments before his trial was scheduled to commence, he unexpectedly admitted to the offences, a development that significantly impacted the proceedings.
Following his guilty plea, the judge sentenced Hiley to a term of five years and ten months in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which remains in effect until further notice, and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
This case highlights the serious nature of sexual offences against minors and the legal system’s response to protect vulnerable victims from repeat offenders.
