ROBERT GLENDINNING SENTENCED IN LEEDS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES COMMITTED DECADES AGO

In a case that has spanned over three decades, Robert Glendinning, a man from Leeds, has been sentenced to five years in prison for a series of heinous child sexual offenses.

The sentencing took place at Bradford Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of Glendinning’s repeated abuse against two young girls during the late 1970s.

Glendinning, who resides on Dorset Terrace in Leeds, faced multiple charges including indecent assault and acts of indecency with a child.

He also pleaded guilty to attempting to rape one of the victims.

Due to legal restrictions, the identities of the victims cannot be disclosed, but it is understood that they now live in the Huddersfield area.

The defendant’s admission of guilt came after discussions with his legal representatives.

It was revealed during the proceedings that in 1993, Glendinning had previously served a six-month sentence for an unrelated incident involving indecent assault against another girl.

This history underscores a pattern of disturbing behavior spanning many years.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall, QC, acknowledged the profound impact of Glendinning’s actions on the victims.

He referenced victim impact statements that described the offences as casting a “dreadful, traumatic and ever-present shadow” over their lives.

The judge commended the victims for their bravery in coming forward and reporting the crimes to the authorities.

Following his arrest earlier this year, Glendinning’s lawyer, Neil Clark, explained that despite not having all the evidence, his client was determined to plead guilty.

Mr.

Clark also highlighted that Glendinning had not committed any further offences for the past 18 years and characterized him as “essentially a loner” who lives in rented accommodation.

As part of his sentence, Judge Durham Hall imposed an indefinite sexual offences prevention order on Glendinning.

This order prohibits him from having any contact with the victims and restricts his interactions in any capacity that could lead to further harm.

Additionally, Glendinning will be required to register as a sex offender with the police for the remainder of his life once he is released from prison.

Det Con Emma Summerscales of West Yorkshire Police’s Child and Public Protection Unit expressed her support for the court’s decision.

She stated, “We welcome the sentence given to Glendinning by the court, and his conviction again demonstrates that even if an offence has taken place many years previously, we will always work to bring offences to justice.

We also hope that Glendinning’s conviction will bring some comfort to his victims.”
