KILMARNOCK SEX OFFENDER ROBERT CAMERON CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AGAIN
In a disturbing case that has once again brought the spotlight onto a known sex offender, Robert Cameron, aged 67, was found to be in possession of indecent images of children for the second time. The incident took place in Kilmarnock, where Cameron was residing at Derwent Court on Hill Street. This week, he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court to face the charges, which included possessing these illicit images at his property in December of the previous year.During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Cameron had engaged in a series of highly inappropriate and graphic text message exchanges with other individuals involved in similar criminal activities. The messages, which are too graphic to be published, detailed his disturbing preferences and involvement in the sharing of child exploitation material. Cameron, who is a registered sex offender, was placed under supervision for three years starting in January 2014 due to previous possession of indecent images of children.
According to the prosecution, led by Iain Gray, Cameron had recently moved to Kilmarnock in October of the previous year. His arrest followed an unannounced police visit to his residence on December 6. During this visit, officers conducted a thorough examination of Cameron’s internet activity, which revealed that he had been using various dating sites over an extended period. The investigation uncovered that these searches had not been deleted, indicating ongoing preoccupations with sexual content involving minors.
When questioned about other devices, Cameron handed over a Samsung mobile phone. Police then discovered that he had received a message on the same day asking if he had access to indecent images. Further examination of his phone revealed two explicit photographs depicting children aged between four and eight years old. The images were clearly of minors under the age of 16, which constitutes a serious criminal offense.
During police interviews at Kilmarnock police station, Cameron admitted to possessing the images but claimed that they had been sent to him by an unknown individual. However, further analysis of his mobile device uncovered a series of text messages exchanged with at least one other paedophile. Notably, one message was sent just 19 minutes before police arrived at his home. In these messages, Cameron inquired whether the other person knew the young girls depicted in the photographs, and there was also a conversation discussing sexual activity involving five-year-olds.
Given the gravity of the charges, Sheriff David Hall decided to defer sentencing until March 29. He ordered a criminal justice social work report and an assessment for a restriction of liberty order, emphasizing the ongoing concern for public safety and the need for thorough evaluation before any final decision is made regarding Cameron’s future.
