July 2011 Sex offender back in court A MAN who was placed on a sex offenders register for life was back in the dock at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week. James McAtee, 48, of Witch Road, Kilmarnock, pleaded guilty to breaching the terms of his registration as a sex offender by failing to inform police that he had opened a bank account in March this year. He was admonished. Five years ago McAtee was jailed for two years after he pleaded guilty to possessing indecent photographs and images of children, as well as sending indecent messages to a 14-year-old girl. At that time Sheriff Colin McKay noted that police had found 58 still images and 122 movie files on the hard-drive of McAtee’s computer. Sheriff McKay said that some of the images depicted “extreme examples of abuse of young children.” “They fall within the classification just short of the most serious,” he said. In addition to jailing McAtee, Sheriff McKay ordered that he should be subject to supervision for two years following his release from jail. And he told him that he would remain on the sex offenders register “for the remainder of your life.”
