ROBERT BURKE FROM LEEDS CAUGHT TRYING TO GROOM TEENAGE GIRL AT PUDSEY BUS STATION
In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing dangers of online predators, Robert Burke, a 60-year-old man from Leeds, was recently convicted and sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for attempting to groom a teenage girl through social media. The incident unfolded after Burke initiated contact with a Facebook profile that was, in fact, operated by a paedophile hunter group aiming to catch online offenders.
According to prosecutor Robert Galley, Burke first made contact with the profile in 2022, where he expressed admiration for the supposed 14-year-old girl, calling her 'gorgeous.' However, the tone of the conversation quickly turned inappropriate.
Within just thirty minutes of initial contact, Burke began making sexually explicit remarks, suggesting he wanted to have sex with the girl.
He went further by requesting explicit photographs of her genital area and, in a shocking display of indecency, sent her a picture of his erect penis.
The conversation escalated as he later sent images of himself masturbating, clearly attempting to normalize and encourage sexual activity.
Burke also suggested that the girl could stay with him at his residence, indicating a desire to meet in person.
Plans for an in-person meeting were made, but Burke’s intentions were thwarted when he was confronted by the paedophile hunter group at Pudsey Bus Station.
Following his arrest, Burke cooperated fully with police, admitting to the charges against him.
He pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, attempting to arrange a child sex offence, and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.
Burke’s actions have been widely condemned, and his conviction serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant online safety measures and the ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation.
Burke, who resides on Nowell Terrace in Harehills, Leeds, now faces the consequences of his actions as justice is served in this serious case.
