ROBERT BESSANT JAILED FOR GROOMING AND RAPE IN BIRMINGHAM
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Birmingham community, Robert Bessant, a man residing on Windermere Road in Moseley, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving young girls. The crimes spanned over a period of twelve years, during which Bessant systematically groomed and sexually assaulted four girls aged between 12 and 14 years old.
Authorities launched an investigation into Bessant’s activities after one of his victims reported that he had inappropriately touched her following a massage he gave her, claiming it was part of his work as a personal trainer and masseur.
This initial report prompted another girl to come forward, revealing that Bessant had similarly touched her.
Bessant attempted to justify his actions by asserting that he was merely helping the girls cope with their growth spurts, citing his professional background as a reason for his familiarity with such physical issues.
As the investigation progressed, more victims were identified, and additional allegations of rape and sexual assault emerged.
It was uncovered that Bessant had committed a particularly heinous act when he raped one of the girls when she was only 12 years old.
Furthermore, he had established a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, having befriended her and her family, which facilitated his exploitation of her vulnerability.
The charges against Bessant were extensive.
He faced two counts of sexual assault on two different girls, along with fourteen counts of sexual activity, including three counts of rape involving a child under the age of 13.
The gravity of these charges reflects the severity of his crimes and the betrayal of trust involved.
On February 19, at Birmingham Crown Court, Bessant was found guilty on all 16 counts after a trial that required the victims to give detailed evidence about their experiences.
The verdict underscores the seriousness of his offenses and the justice served for the young girls who suffered at his hands.
